The College of Natural Sciences at Michigan State University has been recently granted almost $3 million by the National Institutes of Health’s Grand Opportunities fund. The College of Natural Sciences has been given this grant in order to perform a scientific study that will improve the drug development through the study of plants. The end goal of the scientific study is for the country to be able to produce prescription drugs at a lower cost. This scientific study was able to begin due to the initiative and the financial support of the $6 million American Recovery and Investment Act. The College of Natural Sciences at Michigan State University is going to use the funding for the resources that they need in order to understand the chemical genes that are featured in plants that provide medicine. Once this scientific study is completed successfully, there can be steps toward making medicine at a more affordable cost to the United States.
